The Japanese tea ceremony epitomizes a quiet aesthetic sensibility called wabi sabi 侘 寂. The tea bowl used for this ceremony embodies unpretentious beauty, purity, dignity, and humility. Touching Stone Gallery is honored to show some of the best works by top tea bowl makers from different pottery centers in Japan. In 2003, Touching Stone Gallery hosted a Japanese Tea Bowl Masterwork Exhibition and sponsored lectures and tea ceremonies in cooperation with the New Mexico Museum of International Folk Art. That exhibition has evolved into a changing collection of exquisite Japanese tea bowls that are exhibited continuously in our gallery, independent of our regular scheduled shows. The current collection showcases beautiful tea bowls by two master ceramists, Tadashi Nishihata and Tadashi Mori, whose works have graced our gallery in their various solo shows.
